Written by a patient at Wythenshawe Hospital
30th June 2018

I am in my 70's and this was my second hip replacement (the previous one having been carried out almost ten years earlier (also as a result of arthritis) by another surgeon in a NHS hospital). The whole process this time with Mr Borrill and his team was carried out in highly professional, attentive and caring manner. Recovery from the operation went very well and the facilities and staff at The Spire were excellent. I have suffered no problems with my hip in the ensuing 12 months and my mobility is greatly improved. My thanks again to Mr Borrill for his care.

I went to see Mr Borrill suffering from great pain in my right knee and a total inability to do any of the sports that I participate in namely golf, cycling, walking, tennis and skiing. Mr Borrill examined my knee, explained everything fully and talked me through the options including a replacement knee a partial replacement and an osteotomy. An osteotomy was a procedure that I was not familiar with. Mr Borrill was extremely patient and explained the Pros and Cons of all the procedures and it was then that I decided on the osteotomy. I had the operation on 1st August 2017 and before and after the procedure Mr Borrill was excellent. I had regular appointments with Mr Borrill during which he displayed an excellent manner fully explaining the progress to me and my current situation. Everything that he told me about the operation including recovery periods, the progress of the recovery, action to take and his explanations of any questions that I put to him were extremely accurate and nothing was 'glossed over', I am now back to near full fitness and have resumed all my activities. I have just completed 43 days skiing in France which before the operation was not even a remote possibility. I cannot recommend Mr Borrill too highly.

I have struggled for many years with my right knee following a football injury in the early nineties. In January 2017 I had a total knee replacement performed by Mr Jonathan Borrill. I have two children, aged 11 and 13 at the time of the operation and, it was extremely important to me to be able to enjoy outdoor activities such as walking and, ultimately skiing with them and my wife. It was necessary to go the private route and Mr Borrill was recommended to me. At all stages Mr Borrill kept me informed of the key points of the operation to come and I felt very calm and involved by his manner and reassuring approach. The pre operation discussion was clear and detailed and, I was able to prepare with confidence for the procedure and my stay in hospital. The day of the operation was well organised with no surprises meaning that I was able to start my recovery almost immediately. I was encouraged to ask questions and never felt uncomfortable in doing so. Both the operation itself and the subsequent recovery period have passed smoothly. I did need an MUA (manipulation) to further improve my knee bend and this has made a significant difference in improving my activity levels. I would not hesitate in recommending Mr Borrill and, am very happy with the results and the better quality of life I am enjoying. Thank you

I've been a patient of Mr Borrill for a long time and over the years he has dealt with my degenerating arthritic knee caused by an excess of sports activities throughout my life. He always told me that I'd know when it was time for the inevitable total knee replacement.Last year at the age of 66 I couldn't hobble (or even drive) around a golf course any longer so I took the plunge in January 2017 and had my knee replaced, the arthritis cut away and my bowed leg straightened. After a very successful operation and by sticking to the recommended disciplines for recuperation I was back playing golf by the start of the season and walking an average of 3 rounds a week pain free. I've referred others to Jon over the years (including my 90+ year old parents) with knee problems and I recommend him highly.

I initially saw Mr. Borrill with persistent knee pain on walking and exercise. He listened carefully and examined my knee then arranged MR scan to confirm diagnosis. Physiotherapy was also arranged in attempt to improve and strengthen the knee, but no real improvement. Further consultation concluded in planned medial meniscus surgery by arthroscopy. The surgery went ahead. On the day I felt safe and well looked after with clear consent processes. He visited me later in the day following the surgery to describe what he had found and done during the procedure. My post op recovery was good. I am now without pain in my knee and able to resume all activities so really pleased. He had an upbeat and professional attitude throughout with clear communication skills and reassuring manner.
